Talens Varnish for Oil Pastels 060 (75 ml) Talens Varnish for Oil Pastels (060) is a water-based final varnish specifically developed to protect artworks created with oil pastels and wax crayons. Why varnish oil pastels? Unlike acrylics or watercolours, oil pastels never fully "dry" to a hard finish; they remain naturally soft and waxy. This makes artworks susceptible to smudging, dust, and scratches. Talens 060 varnish creates a protective film over the surface, making the work smudge-proof and waterproof, which allows for safer storage and framing. Properties: Finish: Dries within one hour to a colourless, transparent, and waterproof finish with a satin gloss.Colour Stability: Has hardly any effect on the colours.Composition: Synthetic dispersion in water with built-in surfactants. Instructions for Use: Shake well: As this is a dispersion, the bottle must be shaken thoroughly before use.Application: Apply in thin layers using a soft synthetic brush or sponge. Ensure the artwork is finished before varnishing.Thinning: Can be thinned with water if necessary.Cleaning: Tools can be cleaned with water immediately after use. Creative Tip: Isolating Layers You can also use this varnish as an intermediate layer for mixed media techniques. Create a base layer with oil pastels.Apply a layer of Talens 060 varnish and let it dry completely (approx. 1 hour).You can now paint over the varnish with water-based media like acrylics or gouache.
